General
The DC/DC converter control unit (13) together with the 48V battery (12) forms the so-called powerpack.
The DC/DC converter control unit (13) connects the 12V on-board electrical system to the 48V on-board electrical system and regulates the energy exchange between these two on-board electrical systems.
It is connected to the vehicle's network architecture.
Function requirements
- Circuit 30t ON
- Circuit 30c ON
Function
The DC/DC converter control unit (13) consists of an output unit and a logic section. The output unit connects the 12V on-board electrical system to the 48V on-board electrical system, and it enables energy to be transferred in both directions. The logic section is responsible for communication with other control units and for actuation of the output unit.
The DC/DC converter control unit (13) is networked with the 48V battery (12). It includes the energy management for the 48V on-board electrical system.
The 48-V powerpack contains a heat sink with coolant connection (6, 7) to prevent the battery from overheating. Depending on the model involved, there is also a thermally fast cooling and heating element. When the battery is cold, the cooling and heating element operates as a battery heater. When the battery has heated up, this improves cooling. This maintains operation even at extreme temperatures.
The DC/DC converter control unit (13) also processes the following information:
- Circuit status
- Engine running status
- Starter-alternator status
- Starter-alternator voltage actual value
- Starter-alternator current actual value
- Charging voltage specified value
- On-board electrical system battery voltage actual value
- Battery current switch status
- Vehicle speed
- Status of driver door (open or closed)
The DC/DC converter control unit (13) processes these input factors and also sends the following information:
- Operating rate of DC/DC converter (13)
- Current of DC/DC converter (13)
- Temperature of DC/DC converter (13)
- State of charge of 48V battery (12)
- Temperature of 48V battery (12)
- Current of 48V battery (12)
- Voltage at 48V battery (12)
- Detection of a thermal event
