General
An "electronic key" is integrated in the transmitter key. This contains a FM radio transmitter, a computer chip as well as a battery (button cell). For vehicles with KEYLESS-GO, an RFID transponder and motion detector (as of model year 2020) is also integrated in the transmitter key.
The following control elements are also integrated:
- "Lock" button
- "Unlock" button
- Trunk lid/tailgate remote door unlock button (vehicles with remote trunk closing or EASY-PACK tailgate)
- "Panic alarm" button (radio remote control with panic alarm)
- LED indicator lamp
Function
The following functions can be operated with the transmitter key:
- Lock/unlock central locking system.
- Selective: only driver's door and fuel filler flap or socket flap
- Global: All doors, trunk lids or liftgate and fuel filler flap or socket flap
- KEYLESS-GO start
- KEYLESS-GO (vehicles with KEYLESS-GO)
- Convenience feature
- Remove trunk/liftgate release (vehicles with remote trunk closing or EASY-PACK liftgate)
- Panic alarm (radio remote control with panic alarm)
The unlock setting (selective/global) can be changed and the key functions deactivated on the transmitter key. This is described in the owner's manual for the vehicle.
The driver's door can be locked/unlocked with the integrated mechanical emergency key.
The transmitter key communicates with the vehicle via a wireless connection.
The transmitter key monitors the state of charge of its battery itself and indicates this via the red indicator lamp.
Vehicles with KEYLESS-GO
Radio signals are transmitted only if the integrated motion detector detects movement.
