Overview

General 

The steering wheel heater (1) increases the temperature on the steering wheel rim and so improves driver comfort, particularly in the event of low outside temperatures.

Function requirement 

• Vehicle interior temperature below approx. 30°C

Function 

The steering wheel heater (1) is controlled by the steering wheel electronics. Heat is provided by a heating element in the steering wheel rim.

A temperature sensor in the heating element records the surface temperature of the steering wheel rim. The steering wheel electronics read in the signals from the temperature sensor and regulate the surface temperature of the steering wheel rim to approx. 35°C.

Depending on the model series, the steering wheel heater (1) is operated by a switch on the steering column tube or using the central display. If the steering wheel heater (1) is switched on, an LED illuminates in the steering wheel heater switch (1).
