Example illustration of bumper impact sensors
General
The left and right front bumper impact sensors (1, 2) are located at the left and right in the front bumper. The impact sensors detect an impact at the front area of the vehicle. In the event of an impact, measures are initiated that increase the protection of pedestrians and other unprotected road users.
Function
The left and right front bumper impact sensors (1, 2) are connected to each other through a hose. They record the pressure in this hose. If the pressure increases as a result of an impact when the bumper is pressed in, the signals are evaluated by the supplemental restraint system (SRS) control unit.. Corresponding protection countermeasures are then initiated.
