Location
The sound system amplifier control unit is located in the trunk on the left behind the side panel on a major assembly carrier.

Receive signals
The input factors are read in via:
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Direct lines
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The sound system amplifier control unit is a MOST subscriber and receives control and audio signals from the following components:
- Control and audio signals from the head unit (A26/17)
- Audio parameters (e.g. volume, sound) from the head unit
- Control and audio signals from the tuner unit (A90/4) (with code 536 (SIRIUS satellite radio), with code 537 (Digital radio (DAB)) and with code 522 (Audio 20 radio))
- Control and audio signals from the TV tuner control unit (N143) (with code 865 (TV tuner) and code 531 (COMMAND APS))
- Interior noise level signals from the driver hands-free system microphone (B25/20) and from the front passenger hands-free system microphone (B25/21) via the head unit for the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL])
- Speed signal from the head unit for the speed-dependent volume control (SDV [GAL])
Direct lines
The following signals are read in via a direct line:
- Power supply via circuit 30T and circuit 31
- Audio muting (mute line) from the HERMES control unit (N112/9) (with code 360 (HERMES UMTS) or with code 362 (HERMES LTE))
- Electrical wake-up
Signal optimization and amplification
- Optimize the input signals by digital signal processing and Surround Sound
- Support of stereo and multichannel entertainment channels and announcement channels (e.g. for voice output in voice control system or navigation instructions)
- Amplifying of the input signals and assignment of the output to the speakers
Transmitting signals
The sound system amplifier control unit emits the audio signals at the following speakers:
- Left front door midrange speaker (H4/1) and right front door midrange speaker (H4/2)
- Left rear door midrange speaker (H4/3) and right rear door midrange speaker (H4/4)
- Center instrument panel speaker (H4/27)
- Left front door tweeter (H4/33) and right front door tweeter (H4/34)
- Left rear door tweeter (H4/35) and right rear door tweeter (H4/36)
- Left front footwell woofer (H4/42) and right front footwell woofer (H4/43)
- Left rear surround sound system midrange speaker (H4/62) and right rear surround sound system midrange speaker (H4/63)
Function
The sound system amplifier control unit is actuated via the head unit. The head unit also provides all of the menus for user guidance. The software update and diagnosis communication also occur via the head unit.
For the optimized SDV [GAL], the sound system amplifier control unit evaluates the speed signal and noise level in the vehicle interior via the driver hands-free system microphone and front passenger handsfree system microphone.
