General 

The powertrain control unit serves as an interface (gateway) between the combustion engine control unit, the ESP® control unit and the connected bus systems.

Function 

The powertrain control unit primarily intervenes in the following functions:

• Engine management
• Heat management

In order to carry out these functions, the powertrain control unit primarily processes the following input factors:

• Engine management ON (circuit 87)
• Charge air cooler coolant temperature
• Fan motor status
• Accelerator pedal sensor
• Start/stop button
• With manual transmission: Clutch travel sensor
• With manual transmission: Main shifter shaft position sensor

The powertrain control unit processes these input factors and controls the following actuators depending on the engine variants:

• Exhaust flap controller
• Fan motor
• Radiator trim flap actuator motor
• Transmission oil cooling coolant circulation pump
• Charge air cooler circulation pump
• Coolant pump switchover valve
