General
The dual clutch Transmission is characterized by fast gear changes without interruption of tractive power and improved efficiency. It allows sporty vehicle dynamics while at the same time providing the comfort of an automatic transmission.
Function
The dual-clutch Transmission consists of two sub-transmissions, each with a wet multiplate clutch located at the drive end. The fully integrated Transmission control electrohydraulic controller unit or the dual-clutch Transmission control unit actuates the dual-clutch transmission. The control unit monitors Transmission speed, rpm or gear ratio and adapts the shift operations to the respective driving situation and the driver's requirements. Dual-clutch transmissions are available as variants with seven or nine forward gears and one reverse gear.
