General
Driver assistance systems that assist the driver during a journey and actively intervene in dangerous situations must not take all control away from the driver themselves. The driver must have the option of overriding automated system reactions at any time.
Function
The following situations indicate driver activity and therefore cause any system reaction to be aborted:
- Steering
- Braking
- Acceleration
On vehicles with the Driving Assistance Package, the system also evaluates the operation of various functions by the driver to ascertain the level of driver distraction, e.g. the following actions:
- Operation of the multimedia system
- Operation of the on-board computer
If the driver assistance system determines that the driver is distracted, it adjusts the system reactions accordingly (warning threshold).
