General 

The head unit operating unit on the center console provides control options for the multimedia system and driving systems. On vehicles with touchpad, the head unit operating unit can be used as an alternative to the touchpad.

At the multimedia system control, the user selects whether the head unit operating unit or the touchpad should be used as the central control element for the multimedia system.

The head unit operating unit is located on the center console.

Recording of operation signals 

The head unit operating unit contains the following control elements: buttons and a central rocker switch to operate the multimedia system. A back button and a button for the main menu support navigation in the menus.

Interface between multimedia system control and switch panels of multimedia system 

The head unit operating unit is integrated in the network architecture of the vehicle and connected to the switch panels of the multimedia system. Depending on the model and equipment installed, it enables data exchange between the following components:

• Multimedia system control
• Left lower control panel
• Right lower control panel
• Upper control panel
