Reversing Camera Picture Display, Basic Function - GF54.65-S-1003A

Model All (Light transporter)

With Code FR8 (Rear view camera)

Overview

This document contains information on:

General

The reversing camera allows the driver to view the area behind the vehicle as a live picture. They can choose between various displays for this. The view shown on the reversing camera display is prepared with guide lines. The function is operated via the multimedia system.

Function requirements

Function

The reversing camera tasks include recording the area surrounding the vehicle at the rear and the generation of dynamic and static guide lines. The pictures recorded by the reversing camera using an extended angle of vision of 180° are processed accordingly by the integrated control unit. The current driving path displayed in the central display is based on vehicle dimensions, vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

IMPORTANT A warning message appears over the picture displayed in the central display if the tailgate or rear-end door is not closed. The guide lines are hidden from view.

IMPORTANT When performing the initial commissioning for the reversing camera, the reversing camera must be recoded using the diagnostic tester. The reversing camera is calibrated automatically following the initial commissioning.

The reversing camera is activated when the reverse gear (vehicles with manual transmission) or drive range "R" (vehicles with automatic transmission) is engaged. The reversing camera evaluates the input parameters and starts recording the surrounding area.

IMPORTANT Depending on the vehicle and equipment installed, the picture from the reversing camera can also be displayed using the reversing camera button.

The reversing camera stops recording the surrounding area under the following conditions:

The reversing camera picture data is processed by the multimedia system and displayed in the central display. The reversing camera uses the steering wheel angle and stored vehicle parameters (lane and exterior contour of the vehicle) to calculate guide lines, which are superimposed on the display. The steering angle is recorded by the steering wheel angle sensor.

The following displays can be selected:

The area behind the vehicle is displayed mirror-inverted, as it is in the inside mirror.

The display of the recording of the reversing camera is reduced in the event of an attempted correction (forward travel). The guide lines are shown again when the reverse gear (vehicles with manual transmission) or drive range "R" (vehicles with automatic transmission) is engaged again, taking the following parameters into account:

The picture displayed disappears when these parameters are exceeded. The reversing camera then remains in standby mode.

Functional restrictions

The reversing camera does not operate in the following situations or does so to a limited extent only:

IMPORTANT Additional vehicle attachments mounted at the rear (e.g. license plate bracket or rear bicycle rack) may also restrict the viewing range and other functions of the reversing camera.
