General
The multifunction camera (1) is located at the top center of the windshield behind a trim.
Function
The multifunction camera (1) records information regarding the area in front of the vehicle, e.g. ambient brightness, objects or traffic signs. These are evaluated by the integrated control unit, and used for implementing various functions.
This results in the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Controlling of functions
- Actuation of component parts
- Transmission of signals and requests
Reading in of signals
The multifunction camera (1) reads in, among other things, the following, in some cases forwarded, signals:
- Status of circuit 15
- Engine running or drivetrain operational.
- Wheel speed
- Vehicle speed
- Vehicle lateral and longitudinal acceleration
- Information indicating driver activity, e.g. turn signaling, accelerating, braking, steering
- Information indicating possible distraction of the driver, e.g. operation of the audio system, different comfort functions (interior lighting) and different menu levels in the instrument cluster.
Evaluation of input factors
The input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the corresponding component parts are actuated.
Controlling of functions
The multifunction camera (1) controls the following functions:
- Lane Keeping Assist
- Traffic Sign Assist
- High Beam Assist
The multifunction camera (1) evaluates light sources in front of the vehicle.
Actuation of component parts
To avoid any fogging in the field of view of the multifunction camera (1), the windshield is heated in this area by a heater field. The heater field is actuated directly by the multifunction camera (1).
Transmission of signals and requests
The multifunction camera (1) transmits among other things, the following signals and requests:
- Ambient brightness
- Actuate steering wheel vibration motor.
- Actuate partial high beam and perform optical headlamp range control.
- Display traffic signs.
Structure
The multifunction camera (1) consists of the following main components:
- Camera head
- Electronic analysis system (control unit)
- Multifunction camera windshield heater field
After replacing the multifunction camera (1) or the windshield, the multifunction camera (1) must be recalibrated.
