Supplemental Restraint System, Basic Function - GF91.60-S-9900A

Model All (Light transporter)

Overview

This document contains the following information:

General

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) denotes the unit consisting of various passive safety elements that provides optimum occupant protection in the event of an accident.

Function requirement

IMPORTANT Parts of the SRS remain active for a certain run-on time after circuit 15R has been switched off.

IMPORTANT After battery disconnection, the SRS provides an energy reserve for at least 300 ms.

Supplemental restraint system (SRS)

The SRS assesses various input factors, such as the occupancy status of the front passenger seat and the status of the seat belts. If the seat belt is not fastened, a seat belt warning is issued by the instrument cluster.

Signals from various sensors are evaluated for impact detection. The SRS uses this information to calculate the optimum deployment points of the corresponding restraint equipment and triggers it in the event of an accident. Additionally, various functions are started after an accident, e.g. to reduce the risk of fire.

In order to guarantee fault-free operation of the SRS, its components are continuously monitored. Errors occurring are displayed to the driver in the instrument cluster.

IMPORTANT The belt is prevented from extending in certain situations, irrespective of the status of the SRS.
