General
The electrical power steering control unit (5) is the central control unit for the steering functions.
Function
The electrical power steering control unit (5) engages in the following functions:
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)
- Active Park Assist
In order to carry out these functions, the electrical power steering control unit (5) primarily processes the following input factors:
- Steer Assist torque request and wheel speeds
- Engine status, drivetrain operational and engine speed
- Steering wheel angle and steering wheel velocity
- Current status and requested toothed rack position of parking system control unit
The electrical power steering control unit (5) processes these input factors and primarily transmits the following actuations:
- Warning message in display of instrument cluster
- Steering torque, steering wheel velocity and steer assist status to the ESP® control unit
- Electrical power steering control unit, status
- Toothed rack position
The electrical power steering control unit (5) is attached to the rack-and-pinion steering together with the electric power steering actuator motor (6).
The electrical power steering control unit (5) must be re-adjusted after replacement (e.g. after an accident repair).
Depending on the vehicle involved, the hand detection function must also be calibrated on the steering wheel ("hands on/off detection").
