Electrical Power Steering Control Unit (ES), Component Description - GF46.35-S-7010TRA
Model 447, 448
Illustration shows MODEL 447.8
Location
The electric power steering (ES) control unit (N68) is mounted on the steering gear.
Tasks
The electric power steering (ES) control unit (N68) is responsible for the following:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of input factors
- Actuation of components
- Transmission of requests and information
Reading in of signals
The input factors are read in over the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
Direct line
The signal from the electric power steering torque sensor (N68b1) is read in via a direct line.
Chassis CAN
The following signals are read in over the chassis CAN:
- Wheel speeds from the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4)
- "Engine running" and "drivetrain operational" status and engine speed, from the CDI control unit (N3/33) (with engine 651) or from the ME-SF control unit (N3/34) (with engine 274) or from the CDI control unit (N3/36) (with engine 622)
- Steering wheel angle from the steering column tube module control unit (N80)
Status and requested toothed rack position of the PARKTRONIC (PTS) control unit (N62) (with code EZ7 (Active Parking Assist))
Evaluation of input factors
The read-in input factors are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor, the relevant components are then actuated and requests/information are output.
Actuation of components
The electric power steering actuator motor (N68m1) is actuated directly.
Transmission of requests and information
The request to issue a warning message to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1) is sent via the chassis CAN.
