Electronic Stability Program (ESP(R)) Control Unit, Component Description - GF42.45-S-3005TRA
Model 447
Except Code XM7 (MOPF II)
Model 448
Shown on model 447.8
Location
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4) is at the front left in the engine compartment.
Tasks
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4) is responsible for control of the following systems:
- ADAPTIVE BRAKE
- Electronic stability program (ESP)
- Electronic brake force distribution (EBD)
- Anti-lock braking system (ABS)
- Anti-slip control (ASR), electronic traction system (ETS)
- Brake Assist System (BAS)
- Hill Start Assist
- Downhill Driving Assist (DSR) (with code ZG2 (4MATIC) and without code MW1 (Engine run-on control (MWS)) and without code ZK2 (Taxi version with emergency alarm system) and without code ZK3 (Taxi version without emergency alarm system))
- Dry braking
- Precharging, depending on accelerator pedal actuation
- Precharging, depending on lateral acceleration
- ESP trailer stabilization (with code Q22 (Trailer coupling with nonremovable ball head) or with code Q24 (NAFTA trailer crossmember, trailer load 5000Ibs) or with code Q50 (Trailer coupling with removable ball head))
- PRE-SAFE system (with code JP1 (PRE-SAFE))
- Standstill control (SSC) (with transmission 722.9 and with code ET4 (DISTRONIC PLUS) or with code EZ7 (Active Parking Assist))
- HOLD function (model 447.8 or 448.8 with transmission 722.9 and with code ET4 (DISTRONIC PLUS) or with code EZ7 (Active Parking Assist))
- Limiter (except code JP2 (Driving assistance package) and except code ET4 (DISTRONIC PLUS))
- CRUISE CONTROL (except code JP2 (Driving assistance package) and except code ET4 (DISTRONIC PLUS))
- Crosswind Assist
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4) has the following tasks:
- Reading in of signals
- Evaluation of signals
Reading in of signals
Signals are read in over the following connections:
- Direct line
- Chassis CAN (CAN E)
Direct line
The following signals are read in over direct lines:
- Brake light switch (S9/3)
- Left front rotational speed sensor (L6/1)
- Right front rotational speed sensor (L6/2)
- Left rear rotational speed sensor (L6/3)
- Right rear rotational speed sensor (L6/4)
Chassis CAN (CAN E)
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit (N30/4) is a chassis CAN (CAN E) user. It communicates with the following control units over the chassis CAN (CAN E) and the rest of the CAN network:
- Instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A1/1)
- Electric parking brake (EFB) control unit (A13) (model 447.8 or model 448.8)
- Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit (N2/18)
- CDI control unit (N3/33) (with engine 651.9)
- ME-SFI control unit (N3/34) (with engine 274.9)
- CDI control unit (N3/36) (with engine 622.9)
- Signal acquisition and actuation module (SAM) control unit (N10/1)
- Electronic ignition lock (EIS) control unit (N73)
- Steering column tube module control unit (N80)
- DISTRONIC (DTR) control unit (A89) (with code JP2 (Driving assistance package) or with code ET4 (DISTRONIC PLUS))
Evaluation of signals
The signals that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the corresponding component parts are then actuated.
