General
The parking system control unit evaluates information from the distance sensors at the front and rear area of the vehicle. The distance sensors detect obstacles in front of and behind the vehicle. If an obstacle has been detected, the parking system control unit generates the warning according to the distance between the vehicle and the obstacle.
The parking system control unit uses the side distance sensors at the front area to search for suitable parking spaces. Detected parking spaces and any applicable parking options are shown to the driver.
The parking system control unit calculates a suitable path (trajectory) and assists when entering and exiting a parking space. For vehicles equipped with a trailer hitch, the parking system control unit assists the driver during reverse maneuvering with a trailer. The parking system control unit is connected to the network architecture of the vehicle.
Function
To implement the functions, the parking system control unit processes information including the following:
- Engine/drivetrain operating status
- Status of circuit 15
- Wheel speed and wheel rotation direction
- Engaged gear (vehicles with manual transmission) or engaged drive range (vehicles with automatic transmission)
- Acceleration/yaw rate
- Status of Electronic Stability Program (ESP®)
- Status of electric power steering
- Rack position of electric power steering
- Front wheel angle
- Status of parking space selection
- Status of parking brake, brake, ESP®
- Trailer operation status (vehicles with trailer hitch)
- Status of trailer hitch turning angle sensor (vehicles with trailer maneuvering stabilization)
- Blind Spot Assist warning (vehicles with blind spot monitoring)
- Blind Spot Assist braking request (vehicles with blind spot monitoring)
- Steering wheel angle and steering wheel velocity
- Vehicle level (vehicles with air suspension)
- System status
- Accelerator pedal position
- Status of surround lighting (vehicles with Parking Package)
- Status of outside mirror housings (vehicles with Mirror Package)
The parking system control unit evaluates these input factors and sends, among other things, the following information and requests:
- Status of parking system
- Information on distance to obstacle (remaining distance to obstacle)
- Requests:
- Engage drive range (vehicles with automatic transmission).
- Increase/reduce braking torque.
- Control mode (speed control)
- Adjust front wheel angle (steering movement).
- Fold in outside mirror housings (vehicles with Mirror Package).
- Actuate rear camera cover.
- Switch on surround lighting (vehicles with Parking Package).
- Emit warning tones, system or warning messages.
