Software residing in ECUs is defined as "firmware" as well as "settings":

• Firmware  - Non-modifiable software that resides on the ECU.
• Settings  - Modifiable software settings that reside on the ECU.

Function names for software applications residing on the PC include:

• Reprogram  - The process of replacing or modifying existing firmware.
• Recalibrate  - The process of replacing or modifying existing ECU settings.
• View  - The process of displaying information.
• Snapshot  - The output produced as a result of the process of recording vehicle data bus data based upon a user request or preconditioned activity in the ECU.
