Coil Spring/Strut Assembly: Disassembly

  1. Remove the coil spring/strut assembly. See COIL SPRING/STRUT ASSEMBLY  .
  2. Place the coil spring/strut assembly in a suitable vise. Remove the strut nut cover.
  3. CAUTION: To prevent personal injury, do NOT remove the top strut nut until the coil spring is safely compressed.
  4. Loosen, but DO NOT remove, the strut nut. See Fig 1 .
  5. Use Rotunda MacPherson Strut Compressor 014-00781, or equivalent, to compress the coil spring. See Fig 2 .

  6. Remove the strut nut.
  7. Remove the rubber mounting block. See Fig 3 .
  8. Remove the strut bearing. See Fig 4 .

  9. Remove the strut bearing seat.
  10. Remove the upper spring seat/dust boot assembly.
  11. If necessary for repair, remove the dust boot by prying it from the upper spring seat. See Fig 5 .
  12. Remove the coil spring from the strut. See Fig 6 .

  13. Slowly release the tension from Rotunda MacPherson Strut Compressor 014-00781, or equivalent.
  14. Slide the bump stopper off the strut. See Fig 7 .
