Wiper Motor: Front

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disengage wiper arm linkage from wiper motor. Disconnect wiper motor connector. Using fused jumper wire, connect positive battery terminal to terminal for Black/White wire on wiper motor.
  2. Connect another jumper wire from ground to terminal for Brown/White wire on wiper motor. Motor should run at low speed. Disconnect jumper wire from Brown/White wire terminal and reconnect it to motor terminal for Blue/Orange wire. Motor should run at high speed.
  3. Run motor until it reaches park position. Disconnect jumper wires. Measure resistance between terminals for Black/White and Red wires. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between terminals for Black and Red wires. Resistance should be greater than 10,000 ohms.
  4. Reconnect jumper wires. Run motor until it is not in park position. Disconnect jumper wires. Measure resistance between terminals for Black and Red wires. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between terminals for Black/White and Red wires. Resistance should be more than 10,000 ohms. Replace motor if operation or resistance measurements are not as specified.
