Engine - 3.3L: Installation: Engine
CAUTION:
The torque converter must remain at the correct installation depth throughout the entire installation procedure.
NOTE:
Apply a thin coat of petroleum jelly to the inner and outer surface of the converter hub.
NOTE:
The torque converter studs must be aligned with the flywheel holes before any transaxle bolts are installed.
- Remove the engine from the engine stand.
- Align the engine and transaxle.
- Install the upper transaxle to engine bolts.
- Install the torque converter bolts.
- Install the transverse member.
- Position the transverse member.
- Install the RH engine mount bolts.
- Install the LH engine support insulator bolts.
- Install the engine to transaxle braces.
- Install the transaxle to engine braces.
- Install the transaxle inspection cover.
- Install the lower transaxle to engine bolts.
- Install the LH transaxle to engine bracket bolts.
- Install the RH transaxle to engine bracket and exhaust outlet pipe bracket bolts.
- Install the starter motor.
- Position the starter motor.
- Install the bolts.
- Position the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.
- Install the CKP sensor heat shield.
- Position the CKP sensor heat shield.
- Install the nut.
- Raise the powertrain into the vehicle.
- Install the transverse member bolts.
- Install the front transaxle support insulator through bolt.
- Install the rear transaxle support bracket nuts.
- Remove the powertrain lift from under the powertrain assembly.
- Connect the transaxle ground electrical connector.
- Install the halfshafts. For additional information, refer to AXLE SHAFTS .
- Install the flexible pipe.
- Install the lower A/C compressor bolts.
- Position the A/C compressor.
- Install the bolts.
- Install the rear power steering pump bolt.
- Install the four power steering pump bolts.
- Install the power steering drive belt.
- Adjust the power steering drive belt tension. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
- Install the generator drive belt.
- Adjust the generator drive belt tension. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
- Tighten the two generator to bracket bolts.
- Connect the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) electrical connector.
- If equipped, connect the engine coolant heater electrical connector.
- Install the generator wiring bracket screw.
- Connect the generator electrical connections.
- Install the B -terminal screw.
- Connect the generator electrical connector.
- Install the generator ground screw.
- Connect the oil pressure sender electrical connector.
- Connect the transaxle cooler lines to the transaxle.
- Connect the transaxle connections.
- Connect the transaxle range (TR) sensor electrical connector.
- Install the shift cable to the bracket.
- Install the shift cable nut.
- Install the RH side splash shield.
- Position the splash shield.
- Install the bolts.
- Install the LH side splash shield.
- Position the splash shield.
- Install the bolts.
- Install the engine splash shield.
- Install the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to WHEELS & TIRES .
- Install the upper A/C compressor bolts.
- Install the A/C compressor drive belt.
- Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt tension. For additional information, refer to SPECIFICATIONS & DRIVE BELT ROUTING .
- Connect the brake booster vacuum hose to the bulkhead junction.
- Connect the heater hoses to the engine.
- Install the engine ground cable bolt.
- Connect the lower radiator hose to the coolant crossover tube.
- Connect the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
- Connect the throttle and speed control cables.
- Install the cable end jam nuts.
- Connect the throttle and speed control cables to the throttle body.
- Adjust the throttle cable.
- Adjust the speed control cable. For additional information, refer to VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL .
- Connect the vacuum hose.
- Attach the front engine wiring harness to the bracket.
- Attach the main bulkhead connector to the bracket.
- Connect the main bulkhead wiring harness electrical connector.
- Connect the main bulkhead wiring harness electrical connector.
- Install the main bulkhead wiring harness electrical connector bolt.
- Connect the distributor wiring electrical connectors.
- Connect the engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.
- Connect the A/C compressor electrical connectors.
- Connect the A/C compressor clutch electrical connector.
- Connect the A/C compressor high pressure cutout electrical connector.
- Connect the coolant temperature sensor electrical connector.
- Connect the vapor canister purge vacuum line.
- Connect the fuel lines.
- Position the fuel supply line.
- Install the bolts.
- Connect the fuel return line.
- Connect the emission control components.
- Connect the manifold absolute pressure/barometric pressure (MAP/ BARO) sensor electrical connector.
- Connect the MAP/ BARO sensor vacuum hose.
- Connect the vapor canister purge test port.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Connect the valve body wiring harness electrical connector.
- Connect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) electrical connector.
- Connect the starter motor wiring harness electrical connector.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Connect the rear engine harness connector.
- Connect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Install the engine air cleaner outlet tube.
- Fill the engine with Super Premium SAE 5W-30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G to the specified level.
- Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to ENGINE COOLING .
NOTE:
The torque converter may need to be rotated to access all of the bolts.
NOTE:
Rotate the power steering pump pulley to access the mounting bolts.
NOTE:
Install the three ties holding the wire in place.
