Pinpoint Test A: The Shift Interlock System Does Not Release/Lock Correctly

- A1 TEST THE BRAKE LIGHTS
- Apply brake pedal and view brake lights.
- Do brake lights illuminate?
- A2 TEST FUSE 2.11 (15A)
- Key in OFF position.
- Check fuse: Central Junction Box (CJB) Fuse 2.11 (15A)
- Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
- A3 TEST CIRCUIT 10 (LG/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Brake Pedal Position (BPP) Switch C278-2
- Measure the resistance of circuit 10 (LG/RD) at BPP switch C278.
- Is the resistance 10,000 ohms or less?
- YES : REPAIR circuit 10 (LG/RD) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : Go to A4.
- A4 TEST CIRCUIT 10 (LG/RD) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the output side of fuse 2.11 (15A) and BPP switch C278-2, circuit 10 (LG/RD).
- Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
- YES : Go to A5.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 10 (LG/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A5 TEST THE BPP SWITCH
- Measure the resistance of BPP switch C278 while open (OFF) and closed (ON).
- Is the resistance of the switch greater than 10,000 ohms while OFF and 5 ohms or less while ON?
- YES : Go to A6.
- NO : INSTALL a new BPP switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A6 TEST CIRCUIT 569 (DG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: BSIA C2008
- Measure the resistance of circuit 569 (DG), pin C2008-3.
- Is the resistance 10,000 ohms or less?
- YES : REPAIR circuit 569 (DG) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : Go to A7.
- A7 TEST CIRCUIT 569 (DG) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of circuit 569 (DG) between brake shift interlock actuator (BSIA) C2008-3 and BPP switch C278.
- Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
- YES : Go to A8.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 569 (DG) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A8 TEST FOR B+ ON CIRCUIT 294 (WH/LB)
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage at BSIA C2008-1, circuit 294 (WH/LB).
- Is B+ present?
- A9 TEST FUSE 2.6 (10A)
- Key in OFF position.
- Check fuse: Fuse 2.6 (10A)
- Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
- A10 TEST CIRCUIT 294 (WH/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance at BSIA C2008-1, circuit 294 (WH/LB).
- Is the resistance 10,000 ohms or less?
- YES : REPAIR circuit 294 (WH/LB) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : Go to A11.
- A11 TEST CIRCUIT 294 (WH/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of circuit 294 (WH/LB) between the output side of fuse 2.6 (10A) and BSIA C2008-1.
- Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
- YES : Go to A12.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 294 (WH/LB) for an open. TEST system for normal operation.
- A12 TEST CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance of BSIA C2008-2, circuit 57 (BK).
- Is the resistance 5 ohms or less?
- YES : INSTALL a new BSIA. TEST the system for normal operation.
- NO : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
