Front - Except M5 & 540i

  1. Position steering gear to straight-ahead position. Alignment marks on case and steering shaft should align. See Fig 1.
  2. Loosen lock nut on tie rod (black arrow). See Fig 2. Adjust wheel toe-in to specified value by rotating steering tie rod. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. Ensure that ball joint is not twisted. Tighten tie rod clamping nut to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. On cars equipped with Electronic Damper Control, it is essential after wheel alignment to perform a "steering angle check/adjustment" with the BMW Diagnosis System.
