31 11 001 Replacing front axle support

IMPORTANT:
Before removing front axle support:
In order to avoid damage to vehicle hoist, perform weight compensation on vehicle.
Load spring strut domes with sand bags.

WARNING:
Secure engine in installation position with special tool to prevent it from falling down. See SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N55)
or SECURING ENGINE IN INSTALLATION POSITION (N63)

Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Lower front axle support.
- Remove BOTH LOWER CONTROL ARMS FROM FRONT AXLE SUPPORT .
- Remove BOTH TRAILING LINKS FROM FRONT AXLE SUPPORT .
- Remove HYDRAULIC STEERING GEAR .

Remove both engine mounts from front axle support. See RIGHT MOUNT and LEFT MOUNT .
Take front axle support down and set down on a suitable surface.
Installation note:
Use previous front axle support as a template for modifying or replacing small parts.
Installation note:
Only on F01/02 vehicles with ARS:
Adapt holder of ARS hydraulic line if required.
Due to a modification on axle support (1), if necessary cut off tab (2) at the mark!
After installation
- Perform wheel alignment check. See ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH VEHICLE LOAD or ALIGNMENT CHECK WITH RIDE HEIGHT MEASUREMENT (WITHOUT VEHICLE LOAD) .
