Passenger Airbag Module

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 2008 MINI Cooper, 2007 MINI Cooper, 2006 MINI Cooper, 2005 MINI Cooper, and 2004 MINI Cooper. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The passenger front airbag module is located above the glove box, directly in front of the passenger seat. The airbag module is mounted to the body cross car beam. The unit contains a gas generator and igniter module.

Upon deployment, airbag tears the dashboard cover through several predetermined sheer points (dashboard cover would have to be replaced). Once free of the housing and fascia the airbag inflates to its full extent to provide a protective cushion between the front seat passenger and the fascia/windshield. Vents in the airbag prevent excess pressure bursting the bag and, as soon as the material in the gas generator is exhausted, the airbag deflates.
