12 14 550 Replacing Control Units (Digital Motor Electronics N73)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Read fault memory.
Switch off ignition.
Follow instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery . See 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .
Disconnect battery.
Remove right fresh air duct . See 64 31 056 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT OR RIGHT FRESH-AIR DUCT (AUTOMATIC A/C HIGH) .

CAUTION:

Observe removal and installation of electronic control units . See 12 00 ... INSTRUCTIONS FOR DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING BATTERY .

Observe following instructions before replacing control unit:

Program control unit . See 12 14 705 PROGRAMMING CONTROL UNIT (DME/DDE)
Code control unit . See 12 14 700 CODING CONTROL MODULE (DME/DDE)

Release screw and remove holder (1).

Release screws and remove cover (2) from control unit box.

NOTE: Release screws on seal (3) only when removing wiring harness.

Installation:

Insert tabs (1) in openings (2) and close cover.

Unlock and detach plug connections on DME control unit (3).

Installation:

Plug color: black.

Unlock and disconnect plug-in connections on DME 2 control unit (2).

Installation:

Plug color: gray.

Add final details to vehicle.

Check function of DME.
