Clearing DTCS
CAUTION:
When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle.
CAUTION:
All data will be lost when DTCs are cleared. Record data that may be needed later, such as freeze frame data for verifying repairs, before erasing DTCs.
To clear DTCs using a scan tool, refer to owner's manual supplied with scan tool. If scan tool is not available, DTCs may be cleared by disconnecting negative battery cable or ECM/PCM for a few minutes. Reconnect negative battery cable. Start and warm up engine. Run at idle for about 15 minutes. Check for DTCs to confirm repair.
DTCs will be automatically erased by ECM/PCM under certain conditions:
- If non-emission related fault does not reoccur within 51 engine starts, code will clear.
- If emission related fault, except misfire and fuel system lean/rich, does not reoccur in 40 drives, code will be erased.
- If misfire or fuel system lean/rich fault does not reoccur in 80 drives, code will be cleared.
NOTE:
A drive is when engine goes from start to stop and component is monitored in between. The component's code set criteria must be met while the engine is operating before it will be monitored. Due to this, component may not be monitored every engine start to stop cycle.
