(1) Applies to 1.5L only
(2) MIL will illuminate on first detection of the malfunction (one-trip detection). For all other malfunctions, except severe misfire, MIL will illuminate when engine is next turned on and malfunction is again detected (two-trip detection).
(3) If misfire is severe enough to cause catalytic converter damage, MIL will illuminate on first detection and continuously flash as long as danger is present (one-trip detection). If misfire is not severe enough to cause catalytic converter damage, but will cause emissions levels to increase 150 percent over Federal Test Procedure standards, a pending code will be set on first occurrence. If next time key is cycled on and off and misfire is detected under similar conditions to the first occurrence, MIL will illuminate (2-trip detection).
