Circuit Tests: Notes

CAUTION: Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position when performing resistance tests. Perform all resistance and voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedures.
NOTE: Some models may use an Engine Control Module (ECM) or a Powertrain Control Module (PCM). In testing procedures and illustrations, the terms may be used interchangeably. For correct application, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article. PCM diagnostic memory is retained by direct power supply from battery. Memory is not erased by turning off ignition, but it will be erased if battery or ECM is disconnected.
NOTE: For component locations, see REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION article.

Using scan tool, display and record DTCs. Record freeze frame data. See ENTERING ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. If no DTCs are displayed, see TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.

NOTE: Other Monitor is the only monitor that does not require readiness test.

Go to appropriate DTC test(s). After performing test(s), clear DTCs. When DTCs are cleared, readiness test status will be reset to incomplete. Verify repair by operating vehicle according to OBD-II drive cycle appropriate to repair. See appropriate drive cycle under OBD-II DRIVE CYCLES in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - INTRODUCTION article. Using scan tool, check readiness test status for monitor related to the drive cycle driven. If drive cycle is properly run and there are no faults, readiness test status will complete. Repair verification is complete. If ECM detects malfunction, OBD-II drive cycle must be run again before readiness test status will go to complete. Regardless of whether a fault exists, readiness test status will complete by second drive cycle. Once readiness test status is complete, check for DTCs.
