Malfunction Indicator Light Stays On: Testing

  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect scan tool to DLC. See Figure . Turn the ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, check for stored DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTCs are present, record all DTCs and go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  . If no DTCs are present, go to next step.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C-05. Using DVOM, check for continuity between ground and instrument cluster connector C-05 terminal No. 14 (Red/White wire). See Figure for wiring diagram and connector identification. If continuity does not exist, check intermediate connector C-105 for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. Repair as necessary. If intermediate connector is okay, repair short to ground in Red/White wire between PCM connector C-112 terminal No. 22 and instrument cluster connector C-05 terminal No. 14. See Figure . If continuity does not exist, replace PCM.
