Engine Control Module (ECM)

The manufacturer enters the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) into the ECM at the vehicle production. When the VIN is deleted for reasons, the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (SERVICE ENGINE SOON or Check Engine Lamp) illuminates and Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0630 (VIN malfunction) is output. When the ECM is replaced or DTC P0630 (VIN malfunction) is output, it is necessary for the VIN to be entered using the scan tool MB991958.

By adopting the EEPROM, the VIN and the compensation data of learning are not deleted even though the battery is disconnected.
