Valve Timing Control (VTC) Solenoid System Test (300ZX)
- Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and each VTC solenoid harness connector Black/Red wire. VTC solenoids are located on flywheel end of each cylinder head. Battery voltage should be present. If battery voltage is present, go to step 3). If battery voltage is not present, go to next step.
- Check Green fusible link, located in fusible link box near battery. Check 10-amp fuse in relay box, located at left front corner of engine compartment. Check harness continuity between VTC solenoids and ignition switch. Check harness continuity between ignition switch and battery positive terminal. If continuity does not exist, repair circuit as necessary.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Disconnect VTC solenoid harness connectors. Check continuity between ECM harness connector terminal No. 113 (Green/Black wire) and VTC harness connector Green/Black wire. See Figure and Figure . Continuity should exist. If continuity exists, check VTC solenoid. See VALVE TIMING CONTROL (VTC) SOLENOID TEST. If continuity does not exist, repair or replace harness or connectors as necessary.
