Crankshaft Position Sensor
- If a fault is present in CKP sensor, Code 82 may be set in ECM memory. If Code 82 is set, perform DTC 82 - CKP SENSOR in the TESTS W/CODES
article.
- To test CKP sensor, disconnect crankshaft position sensor connector. Sensor is located at rear of engine, facing flywheel. Remove sensor and visually inspect sensor core for chipping. Replace as necessary. If sensor is okay, go to next step.
- Reconnect sensor connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between connector terminals No. 2 and 3 while quickly moving screwdriver close and away from sensor core. See Fig 1
. Voltage should fluctuate between 0-5 volts. If voltage signal does not fluctuate between 0-5 volts, check harness for short or open circuit. If no problems are found, replace CKP sensor.
