Engine Controls - Sensor Operating Range Charts - Pickup: Introduction

Sensor operating range information can help determine if a sensor is out of calibration. An out-of-calibration sensor may not set a trouble code, but it may cause driveability problems.

NOTE: Perform all voltage tests using a Digital Volt-Ohmmeter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. To identify ECU terminals, see wiring diagram in the appropriate WIRING DIAGRAMS article.

WIRING DIAGRAMS - 2.4L

WIRING DIAGRAMS - 3.0L

CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE TEST (1)

Application Wire Color (1-Degree Signal) Wire Color (120/180-Degree Signal)
Pickup (2) Green/Black Green/Yellow
(1) Measure voltage between indicated wire color terminals.
(2) Voltage should fluctuate between zero and 5 volts.
CLOSED THROTTLE POSITION SWITCH CONTINUITY (1)

Pickup Blue/Yellow & Pink
(1) Continuity should exist with throttle valve fully closed, and no continuity with throttle valve off idle position.
