DTC Confirmation Test (Using Generic Scan Tool)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Infiniti G35. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
DO NOT use ECM ground terminals when measuring voltage. Damage to ECM transistor may result. Use engine ground.
NOTE:
Use the following test to check overall function of the 3-way catalytic converter 1. During this test, a DTC may not be confirmed.
NOTE:
If a DTC confirmation test has been previously performed, turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds before performing next DTC confirmation test.
- Turn ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds.
- Start engine and keep it at 3500-4000 RPM for at least one minute under no load.
- Let engine idle one more minute.
- Open engine hood.
- Measure voltage between engine ground and ECM harness connector F101 terminal No. 91 (HO2S1 bank 1) or terminal No. 92 (HO2S1 bank 2), and between engine ground ECM harness connector F101 terminal No. 88 (HO2S2 bank 1) or terminal No. 90 (HO2S2 bank 2) by backprobing.
- Maintain engine speed constant at 2000 RPM under no load.
- If switching frequency of HO2S2 is less than 75 percent of HO2S1 switching frequency, catalyst system is operating correctly. If switching frequency of HO2S2 is not less than 75 percent of HO2S1 switching frequency, go to DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE . If HO2S1 does not switch more than 5 times within 10 seconds, diagnose and repair HO2S1. See DTC P0133 OR DTC P0153
