Chart D3 Fluid Level Sensor

  1. Fluid level sensor consists of reed switch and float. There are 2 electrically independent switches inside sensor. Fluid level sensor can cause "BRAKE" or "ANTI-LOCK" light to come on. One switch is normally open. When fluid level is low, switch closes and circuit is grounded.
  2. BCM receives this grounded signal and activates "BRAKE" light. Other switch, for EBCM, is normally closed and is part of low fluid/pressure loop. When fluid level is low, switch opens, sending a warning input to EBCM. EBCM then will turn on "ANTI-LOCK" light.
  3. Fluid level sensor conditions which may result in ABS shut down with both the "Anti-Lock" and "Brake" lights on would likely include a stuck float or a damaged/contaminated sensor connector.
