If Code 36 is set, use that chart first. PCM will run code test when MAP value is steady, IAT value is greater than 30°C, engine coolant temperature is 151°C or more, engine speed is 1200-1900 RPM and knock retard is at zero degrees.

Code will set if spark advance is greater than an amount which should cause detonation and detonation is not detected within one second.

1. Checks knock sensor's ability to detect an induced knock.
2. Determines if fault is a circuit or a sensor problem.
