Code 28, Illegal Transaxle Range Switch Input: Notes
Code will set if Codes 21, 22, 24, 56, 75, 86 and 91 are not set, vehicle speed is greater than 7 MPH, throttle angle is greater than 15.7 degrees, all conditions are present for at least 5 seconds and any one of the following: PCM detects an illegal input from transaxle range pressure switch, PNP switch indicating not in P/N but transaxle range pressure switch is indicating P/N with a valid drive transaxle gear ratio of 3.11 or less, transaxle range pressure switch indicating reverse with a transaxle gear ratio not within the recognized range (between 2.01 and 2.24), or transaxle range pressure switch indicating D1, D2, D3 or D4 with a transaxle gear ratio within the recognized reverse range (between 2.01 and 2.24).
NOTE:
Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
- Checks all range circuits for shorts to ground.
- Checks for open circuits. If more than one range signal display is on when circuit is shorted to ground, inspect those circuits for shorts to each other.
- These steps check internal transaxle harness for shorts to ground. If a short to ground is found, replace transaxle harness.
- Checks internal transaxle harness for opens. If open is found, replace transaxle harness.
