Code 96, Torque Converter Overstress
Code will set if Codes 21, 22 and 24 are not set, brakes are applied, vehicle speed is less than 5 MPH and throttle angle is greater than 65 degrees for 12 seconds. Most occurrences of this code are due to application of brakes while depressing accelerator. Check the following:
- Brake switch operation (TCC brakes switch input).
- TP sensor.
- MPH indication on speedometer.
- Transaxle range switch operation.
Inspect harness connectors for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal-to-wire connections or damaged harness.
Perform intermittent check by monitoring circuit and code status while wiggling related wiring and connectors. If failure is induced, monitored circuit status will change rapidly and/or related code will set.
