Code 111 - TCS Warning Or Switch Light Circuit Malfunction (With TCS): Notes
This test checks the state of both the Traction Control System (TCS) warning light and TCS active circuit to identify a situation in which driver could not be alerted to a system malfunction or availability of traction control. Electronic Brake and Traction Control Module (EBTCM) turns on TCS warning light by providing ground to light circuit. The TCS active circuit is such that the EBTCM provides a ground to signal PCM that TCS is active.
Code 111 can set anytime. The TCS warning light will set Code 111 if circuit is open or shorted to ground during the 3 second bucheck. A malfunction exists if TCS warning light circuit is opened anytime after the bucheck for greater than 2 seconds. Short to voltage on TCS warning light or circuit is detected anytime after bucheck is complete and EBTCM is commanding the light off. An open on the spark retard line while the TCS is not active will also set Code 111, if malfunction is present for greater than 2 seconds. A short to ground in TCS active circuit when circuit is commanded off by EBTCM and if present for 2 seconds, will also set code, but ABS and TCS are not disabled.
- Determines if TCS warning light can be properly controlled.
- Determines if TCS warning light is illuminated all the time.
- Checks for other codes which could activate TCS warning light.
- Determines if TCS warning light can be manually turned off.
- Checks integrity of TCS warning light circuit.
- Checks for short to voltage in TCS warning light circuit.
- Determines if code was set due to a malfunctioning EBTCM.
- Verifies if other instrument cluster indicator lights are operating properly.
- Determines if TCS warning light can be manually turned on.
