Test D: Wipers Inoperative All Modes

  1. If wiper/washer system description has been reviewed, go to next step. If wiper/washer system description has not been reviewed. See DESCRIPTION  .
  2. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Activate windshield wiper/washer switch through all wipe and wash positions. If wiper/washers do not operate normally, go to next step. If wiper/washers operate normally, problem may be intermittent. Check for poor or intermittent condition. See PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS  under INTERMITTENTS.
  3. Disconnect wiper motor 5-pin harness connector. Wiper motor is located top right rear of engine compartment. Using a test light connected to ground, probe wiper motor harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire). See Fig 1 . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  9 .
  4. Connect test light between wiper motor harness connector terminals "A" (Black wire) and "B" (Yellow wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step  10 .
  5. Using a test light connected to ground, probe wiper motor harness connector terminal "D" (Dark Green wire). If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, go to step  7 .
  6. Disconnect windshield wiper/washer switch 7-pin harness connector. Using a test light connected to ground, probe windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector terminal "K" (Yellow wire). See Fig 2 . If test light illuminates, go to step  8 . If test light does not illuminate, go to step  11 .
  7. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in windshield wiper motor harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  14 . If no problem is found, go to step  12 .
  8. Check for poor, loose or corroded terminals in windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector. If problem is found, repair as necessary and go to step  14 . If no problem is found, go to step  13 .
  9. Repair open in wiper motor harness connector terminal "B" (Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs are made, go to step  14 .
  10. Repair open in wiper motor harness connector terminal "A" (Black wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs are made, go to step  14 .
  11. Repair open in windshield wiper/washer switch harness connector terminal "K" (Yellow wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . After repairs are made, go to step  14 .
  12. Replace wiper motor. See WIPER MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to step  14 .
  13. Replace windshield wiper/washer switch. See WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs are made, go to next step.
  14. Check system for proper operation. Perform SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If system operates normally, test is complete. If system does not operate normally, go to step  3 .
