Balance Shaft (Unit Repair) Installation: Installation

  1. Install balance shaft bushing using Balance Shaft Bearing Remover/Installer J43650.

  2. Seat balance shaft bushing into bore using J43650 and a wrench.
  3. When the J43650 is fully seated in the engine block remove it with a wrench.

    IMPORTANT:  If balance shafts are not properly timed to engine, the engine may vibrate or make noise.

  4. Place the number one piston at top dead center (TDC).
  5. Install balance shaft drive chain sprocket on crankshaft.
  6. Install balance shafts into their bores.
  7. Install balance shaft retaining bolts.

    Torque: 

    Balance Shaft Retaining Bolts: 10 N.m (89 in-lbs)

  8. Align arrow on exhaust sprocket with notch on carrier. Arrow should point down.

  9. Align arrow on intake sprocket with notch on carrier. Arrow should point up.
