Test D: Key Cannot Be Removed In Off Lock Position

NOTE: When replacing ignition key, verify if vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R). If vehicle is equipped with PASS-KEY II(R), new ignition key will need to be programmed. See ANTI-THEFT SYSTEMS - CAMARO & FIREBIRD article.
  1. Review steering wheel and column description and operation. See DESCRIPTION & OPERATION  . After review, go to next step.
  2. Using ignition key, verify if key cannot be removed from lock cylinder with ignition switch in OFF position. If lock system is not operating correctly, go to next step. If lock system is operating correctly, system is okay at this time.
  3. Inspect for incorrect, worn or damaged ignition key. If ignition key is correct and not worn or damaged, go to next step. If ignition key is incorrect, worn or damaged, go to step  5 .
  4. Inspect for faulty lock cylinder or release button. If lock cylinder or release button is not faulty, go to next step. If lock cylinder or release button is faulty, go to step  6 .
  5. Replace ignition key, then go to step  7 .
  6. Replace lock cylinder, then go to next step.
  7. Operate system to verify repair. If system is not operating correctly, repeat test beginning at step  3 .
