Camshaft Position Sensor (4.2L)

The Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor utilizes a Hall Effect sensor that serves a similar function as Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. CMP sensor is mounted on engine block in close proximity to camshaft. CMP sensor creates a 6X plus a sync signal for each revolution of the camshaft. These signals are for control of sequential fuel injection and for exhaust camshaft phaser control. CMP sensor is connected directly to PCM and consists of 12-volt reference circuit, low reference circuit and CMP sensor signal circuit.
