Fuel System Pressure Release

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2003 Buick Century. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: ALWAYS release fuel pressure before disconnecting any fuel injection-related component. DO NOT allow fuel to contact engine or electrical components.
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Install the Fuel Pressure Gauge Fitting (J 34730-262) to the fuel pressure connection.
  3. Connect Fuel Pressure Gauge (J 34730-1A) to the fuel pressure gauge fitting. See Fig 1. Wrap a shop towel around the fuel pressure connection while connecting the fuel pressure gauge to avoid spillage.
  4. Install the bleed hose into an approved container and open the valve to bleed the system pressure. The fuel connections are now safe for servicing.
  5. Drain any fuel remaining in the fuel pressure gauge into an approved container.
