Installation Procedure

  1. If removed, install the coolant pump to the engine front cover. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LA1) in Engine Cooling.
  2. If removed, install the crankshaft position sensor to the engine front cover. Refer to Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement (24X CKP Sensor) or Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Replacement (7X CKP Sensor) in Engine Controls-3.4L.

  4. If removed, install the drive belt shield.
  5. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  6. Install the drive belt shield bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the drive belt shield bolt to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the engine front cover gasket.
  9. Apply sealer GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480) or equivalent to both sides of the lower tabs of the engine front cover gasket, and the engine front cover bolts.

  11. Install the engine front cover.
  12. Install the engine front cover bolts (2).

    Tighten:  Tighten the engine front cover bolts (2) to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).

  13. Install the engine front cover bolts (3).

    Tighten:  Tighten the engine front cover bolts (3) to 55 N.m (41 lb ft).

  14. Install the engine front cover bolts (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the engine front cover bolts (1) to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  16. Install the crankshaft position sensor wiring bracket.
  17. Install the crankshaft position sensor wiring bracket bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the crankshaft position sensor wiring bracket bolt to 27 N.m (20 lb ft).

  18. Install the coolant pump pulley. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LA1) in Engine Cooling.
  19. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the coolant pump. Refer to Radiator Hose Replacement - Outlet (LA1) in Engine Cooling.
  20. Connect the thermostat bypass pipe to the engine front cover. Refer to Thermostat Bypass Pipes Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  21. Install the power steering pump with lines. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement (LA1 ) in Power Steering System.
  22. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement .
  23. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement .
  24. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
  25. Fill the cooling system with engine coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System in Engine Cooling.
