Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo and 2004 Chevrolet Impala. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  2. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  3. Remove the accelerator cable (5) from the accelerator pedal (1).

  5. Attach a piece of mechanics wire to aid in the installation of the new cable.

  6. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator cable through the cowl.

  8. Remove the accelerator cable from both retaining clips.

  10. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.

  12. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.

    IMPORTANT: Note the routing of the accelerator cable for removal.
  14. Remove the piece of mechanics wire from the cable.
  15. Remove the accelerator cable from the vehicle.
