SITUATION

Spare parts requirements for PCM2.1 operator control unit (Model Level B)

Various problems can arise when using CDs in the audio CD drive on PCM2.1 operator control units that are still being shipped by the Parts Service or PCM2.1 operator control units in your inventory that have the specified part numbers and run on software version 3.2 or lower.

The purpose of workshop campaign W610 is to update the PCM2.1 to the current software version on vehicles that were shipped with these PCM2.1 operator control units.

The PCM2.1 system software has been changed as of the date of introduction specified below.

DATE OF INTRODUCTION

New PCM2.1 system software version 3.3 as of February 2006

ACTION REQUIRED

Following installation of a PCM2.1 operator control unit with one of the specified part numbers, check the software version of the PCM2.1 operator control unit.

If the software version is 3.2 or lower with the PCM2.1 Repair Kit CD-ROM, Part No. 000.043.205.46.005, install new system software on the PCM2.1 operator control unit.

WORK PROCEDURE

Checking the software version of the PCM2.1 operator control unit installed as a spare part.

Switch on ignition.
Switch on PCM2.1 if necessary by pressing the left rotary knob (==> Fig 1-Item 1- ).

Press the "MAIN" and "TRIP" buttons (==> Fig 1-Items 2 and 3- ) simultaneously on the PCM2.1 to go to the "SW versions" display.
Press the right rotary knob (==> Fig 1-Item 4- ) in the "SW versions" display to select the "PCM" menu item.
Press the right rotary knob (==> Fig 1-Item 4- ) to confirm your selection.
The following software version will be displayed, depending on the software version of the PCM2.1:
1. - Header (==> Fig 1-Item 5- ): SW versions 3.0
  - Main display (==> Fig 1-Item 6- ): 05024AD1/0205
    - Perform software update according to ==> Technical Information 'W61000 Workshop campaign W610 - Installing new system software on the PCM2.1' ( GROUP 9, NO. 18/05 )*.
2. - Header (==> Fig 1-Item 5- ): SW versions 3.2
  - Main display (==> Fig 1-Item 6- ): 05024CD1/3905
    - Perform software update according to ==> Technical Information 'W61000 Workshop campaign W610 - Installing new system software on the PCM2.1' ( GROUP 9, NO. 18/05 )*.
3. - Header (==> Fig 1-Item 5- ): SW versions 3.3
  - Main display (==> Fig 1-Item 6- ): 05024ED1/4705
    - Software corresponds to the current PCM2.1 version
    - No software update required.
