Programming DME Control Unit

- Malfunctions in control unit, even during programming
→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms; different text or additions may appear in > 9900 - PIWIS Tester 3 .

All remote controls (keys) are required for teaching a DME, front-end electronics (front BCM), rear-end electronics (rear BCM), electronic steering lock (ELV) control unit for example, or for teaching remote controls (keys).
Remote controls (keys) that are not taught during this procedure will no longer be recognized by the vehicle.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it.
- Switch on ignition using original remote control (hand-held transmitter).
- Select the vehicle type if required.
- Select the DME control unit in the overview. Press F12 to continue. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Maintenance/repairs must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Control unit replacement must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Read data must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- The message Data was read out appears on the Tester screen.
- Switch off ignition and replace control unit.
- After installing a new DME control unit, switch on ignition and select the Control unit replacement menu (as described above). Select Write data F12 and press F8 to start writing the data that was read out. The data that was read out is installed.
- Coding/adaptation must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Automatic coding must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- The message "Coding was completed successfully" appears. Press F12 to continue.
- Coding - Restore factory settings - New part coding must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- The message "Coding was completed successfully" appears. Press F12 to continue.
- Switch back to the Overview menu.
- Additional menu must now be selected. Press F7 to continue.
- Engine immobilizer start-up must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the PPN user name and password. Press F12 to continue.
- The Tester displays the message Login successful. Press F12 to continue.
- Select the vehicle type if required. Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the repair order number. Press F12 to continue.
- Vehicle data will be read out.
- The vehicle identification number (VIN) is displayed. Change it if necessary.
- Follow the instructions on the Tester.
- Once the teaching process is completed successfully, the Tester shows the following status, for example:
2 keys taught
BCM front: taught
ELV: taught
BCM rear: taught
DME: taught
Overall vehicle status: taught
- Press F12 to continue.
- Press EXIT to exit Engine immobilizer start-up and select the vehicle type on the Start page.
- For the learning and adaptation routine, switch the ignition off and then on again for 60 seconds without starting the engine.
Do not press the accelerator pedal. Switch ignition off again for at least 10 seconds. Switch on ignition.
- Return to the Start page.
- Maintenance/repairs must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Transfer diesel particle filter bank 1 mileage into DME must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Enter the mileage and select Write data by pressing F8.
- Go back to Maintenance/repairs. Press F12 to continue.
- Adaptations must be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- Adapt kickdown, IMA/ISA and radiator shutter. Press F8 to continue.
- Perform adaptations according to menu guidance.
- Return to the Start page.
- Read out the fault memory and delete any fault entries.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
- Carry out a test drive and then read out the fault memory again.
