Replacing Triggering Unit For Airbag

→ Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
→ Ensure that the power supply is not interrupted during programming.
→ Connect a battery charger with a current rating of at least 90 A to the vehicle battery.

The PIWIS Tester instructions take precedence since the description may be different with later Tester releases.
The procedure described here has been structured in general terms. Different text or additional information may appear on the PIWIS Tester .
Information
To prevent a malfunction of the airbag system, always check that the vehicle data is correct before locking the airbag control unit. The vehicle data can no longer be corrected after locking the airbag control unit.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type if required.
- In the overview, press F7 to switch to the Additional menu. The message "Create Vehicle Analysis Log (VAL)?" appears. Press F11 to continue.
- Select Maintenance of vehicle data and press F12.
- Compare the displayed values with the vehicle values and press F4 to save, then press F12.
- Switch off ignition, remove battery charger from the power supply and disconnect the battery.
- Wait at least 1 minute before removing the old airbag triggering unit and installing the new airbag triggering unit.
- Connect the Tester to the vehicle and start it. Switch on ignition.
- Select the vehicle type if required.
- Select Airbag control unit in the overview .
- Maintenance/repairs must now be selected.
- Lock
must now be selected. Press F12 to continue.
- 12.1 Read and follow the warnings and instructions on the Tester.
- 12.2 Perform locking procedure according to menu guidance.
- Switch off ignition and switch it on again after 5 seconds.
- Read out the fault memory, correct faults that are stored if necessary and clear the fault memory.
- Exit the diagnostic application. Switch off ignition. Disconnect the Tester from the vehicle.
- Switch on ignition. Check that the airbag warning light in the instrument cluster comes on and then goes off again after a few seconds.
