Removing Control Unit For Steering Wheel Electronics
WARNING:
Airbag contact unit not set correctly
- Malfunction in driver's airbag unit
- When removing and installing the steering-column switch, turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are in straight-ahead position. This ensures that the airbag contact unit is locked in the central position.
- Do not trap the cable of the airbag contact unit.
- Check that the cable is routed correctly.
NOTIFICATION
Voltage peaks
- Risk of damage to electrical load or to the control unit
- Switch off ignition and keep transmitter key outside of the transmission range (at least 2 m).
- Switch off electrical loads before disconnecting or removing them.
Information
Always comply with the regulations for handling ESD-sensitive components!
- Assembly work may only be carried out if the mechanic is wearing the working clothes and shoes approved by Porsche.
- The new part must only be removed from the ESD (electrostatic discharge) protective packaging just before installation
- and at the position at which the part is to be installed.
- Never touch the electric pins and plug contacts.
Information
Make sure that the arrow -A- on the rotor is positioned between the markings -B- for arrows -C- and that the locking element -D- is engaged.
- Release and disconnect electric plug connection on the steering-column switch.
- Loosen fastening screw and disconnect steering-column switch with steering wheel electronics control unit by pulling it to the rear.
- Release electric plug connections -1-

.
- Unscrew and remove screw -2-
.
- Release locking lugs -arrows a- and remove steering wheel electronics control unit -arrow A- .
